a) Concept
Sound has no walls its a sound installation that consist on putting 8
speakers in the fence of the border with the main objective of sending
sound from one side to the other, and if it is possible, from the other
side to this side. With this we are going to present an represent the
idea that, instead of what happen with political borders, sound cannot
be stopped by simple walls. The physical idea of the installation is to
create a sound space that people can travel in through. You will walk
beside the wall and you will hear the sounds coming from the speakers
making a mixing between one speaker and the next, so the idea is to
built a soundscape that we can go through it.
b) Content
The sound content, the sound material that will feed the installation,
will be a sound piece based on the idea of the inner thoughts from
people in a inmigrant condition. What people say in its own mind while
they are walking through the ilegal passby. This will be transfered to
sound, from a silent (and forgiven condition) to an outside, public
expression. While the migrants has to pass in silence through the
border, we are going to make loud its feelings and thougths.
c) An Action to get content
Friday 19th July
For getting the sound materials that we will use for the sound
installation, we propose to make an invitation to all the performers
to come to a night journey in the field, to make a "soundspeech walk".
We have to go to a no-city place, if possible in a land near the
border, and try to make an escenario in which we are going to cross
it. Participants, preferently performers, must just walk through the
land and imagine that they are crossing, and try to speech what they
are feeling. Before the beginning of the walk, we will provide some
indications to the participants in orther to get the necessary
dramaturgic conditions to get the sound speeches. The participants
will be provided with a microphone system that will allow to record
all the sounds expressions coming from the walkers. While walking,
performes will do the work to put in their acting minds, the proposed
situation of being crossing the border, at night, with cold, with fear
maybe, with hope others, with the nerve of the risk, maybe thinking on
family, on money, on hapinnes, on death. finally, to express all kind
of registers they could create during the speech walk.
The idea is to get a sound material very intimist, very closer, as a
inner thought. This, like a figure in a background soundspaced forest.
We will record also, the noises of the night, the steps -a lot of
steps- and wishes and breathings and wisperings and every gestual
sound the participants perform. The recording travel can have a total
duration like a half of an hour.
